SAVAGE STORMS THRASH SE QLD - DECEMBER 30, 2001 Yesterday in SE QLD, several severe thunderstorms were causing havoc in and around Brisbane. Houses were unroofed, trees uprooted and thousands of homes and businesses were without power for over an hour. Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast were also badly affected by the numerous storms. Some places encountered more than one storm during the day, making the clean-up and power supplies difficult to rectify. Many areas are still trying to rebuild after pre-christmas storms. The Gold Coast, however, escaped unscathed with all storms dodging the area. All the storms were heading in a ENE direction, although there were some sporadic storms shooting off in different directions. Steve
Baynham was unable to take any decent photos due to the overcast conditions on the Gold Coast during the day while massive storms would've been visible in most directions. However, once the skies had cleared a little, the sunset was magnificent.
Stay tuned for some breath-taking photographs from some of the BSCH storm chasers for this day.
