MORNING & AFTERNOON STORMS HIT SE QLD - DECEMBER 31, 2001 Resident of SE QLD were awaken early hours in the morning to more destructive storms adding chaos to the previous nights storms just hours before. The storms continued from just after midnight til sunrise. Some of these storms were classed as severe and damaged some houses and property. The Gold Coast area received a couple of these storms making up for lack of storms on Sunday. Steve Baynham was woken up to the sound of thunder with lightning all around him. Unfortunately, due to the rain, was unable to whip out the camera and capture some of the lightning. The weather turned fine from morning til afternoon, very similar to the previous day with storms developing west of toowoomba and travelling ENE to arrive on the coastal regions late in the afternoon. They weren't quite as severe as Sunday but bought with them thundery rain and hundreds of lightning strikes. Areas north of the Gold Coast wore the majority of the storms, while all they got was a few rumbles and a bit of rain. The similarity from the day before was uncanny also ending with a beautiful sunset as captured by Steve Baynham
Stay tuned for some top shots from other BSCH storm chasers for this day.
