WILD STORMS SEND BRISBANE UNDERWATER - MARCH 9, 2001 The weather leading up to this day was showery for most parts, with storms situated off the coast on and off for several days. These storms tended to stay offshore, however on Tuesday (March 6) some of these began to come ashore. The following photos were taken by myself at Redcliffe and Geebung, in the northern suburbs of Brisbane. These storms were developing around a sub-tropical low off the southern QLD coast. This low also produced large swells which caused higher than normal tides, causing some flooding in low lying coastal areas. Jason Rainforest took the following photos from the Gold Coast on Wednesday (March 7). The BIG day (March 9) A line of offshore storms during the morning would be a pre-cursor to one of if not the biggest flash flood events in Brisbane's history. During the afternoon storms developed over land, and remained slow moving for many hours, dumping torrential rain on many areas of Brisbane. Creeks and storm water drains failed to cope with the downpoar, spiling over into nearby streets flooding houses and business', reaching an incredible depth in some areas. Below are links to two chase reports for this day and video stills of footage taken by Channel 7. *Several waterspouts were sighted around southern Stradbroke during the morning on this day! Unfortunately there are no photos of these*
