Showers began developing on radar over
inland parts by late morning, and by lunch time several heavy showers/developing
storms were visible to my west. Over a period of about an hour i
watched one particular cell strengthen, and eventually develop a reasonably
nice leading edge.
This cell crossed the coast just north of
Redcliffe. Strangely enough, it wasn't very lightning active at all.
Infact i only heard 2 rumbles of thunder the whole time i was watching
it, and saw no visible strokes of lightning.
The sky was relatively quiet around my
location for the next few hours, with very little vertical
development. Some large storms did develop in NE NSW and the Gold
Coast during the afternoon, but unfortunately cloud obscured my view of
these. I did manage to take a picture (on the left) of a rather large
cell off the coast around this time.
During the late afternoon a cell developed
S/SW of my location and moved NE towards the coast. It was low topped,
and had very little glaciation, but it looked great in the setting sun!
Once again there was very little lightning.
The shelf cloud on this cell was amazing!
Unfortunately by the time it came into view, the sun had long since set,
and it was too dark for my digital camera. Out of all the photos
i took of it (and i took lots!) only one came out.
