SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS IN SE QLD AND NE NSW - SEPTEMBER 27, 2000

An upper level trough caused showers and thunderstorms to develop in SE QLD and NE NSW on this day.  While the storms in both districts were mostly of a pulsy (short lived) nature, there were some stronger storms in NE NSW.  Hail drifts were reported at Palmers Island, west of Yamba (information courtesy of Halden Boyd) , consisting of small (5c piece) hail.

NE NSW storm chaser Michael Bath was in a good position to photograph this storm, and got some excellent shots.

Ben Quinn and Jason Rainforest also chased in NE NSW on this day.

Rainfall totals in both districts were generally low, with the highest total being 4mm at Mt Glorious in the SE coast district of SE QLD, and 12mm at Yamba in the northern rivers district of NE NSW.
